audio wav files, sequence/file limits etc

Trying to get my hear around teh MPC workflow. I THINK the MPC One+ will do what I want, but need to be sure.

I need something to play simple Wav backing track files. Pre mixed to a stereo wav file, or potentially MP3 (though Id rather use Wav). The usecase is a simple vocal trio using backing tracks to sing to.

Now - the obvious way is a tablet.... BUT we want to start syncing light shows to the backing track. My Lighting controller can change scenes/patterns with midi note data. So the idea is to import the one wav file into the MPC, create a midi track where I can input midi note data that will then trigger hte lighting controller to change light patters.

Whats confusing me is "8 audio track limit" - which ive seen people try to explain before - but it often ends up in multitracks.

In my head, Id create one project for each set. Each project will contain One sequence for each song. Each sequence will contain the Wav file, and a synced midi track for the lighting note triggers.

So - we may have 16 audio tracks in a set - so ideally need up to 16 audio tracks per project - hence the confusion with 8 audio track limits. However I actually think the 8 audio limit is 8 individual tracks per sequence - not per project? like an 8 track recorder? which isnt how I want to use it.

Each sequence will have ONE wav file and ONE midi track. Then use setlist function to select and start each sequence - ie each songs audio backing track and associated midi control track when needed. So up to 16 sequences each containing that single Wav and Midi track. Then during breaks between sets load up the next project - ie the next set.

So - have I actually got this right in my head, and I can work this way without the "8 audio file" limit, or will I need to split each of the bands set into subsets - each in their own project, and have to load a new project mid set? That would be a PITA though not unworkable.

The obvious way to do this is a laptop, only I dont own one lol and this would literally be the only use case for the laptop, I do however play synth and guitar too and currently dont have anything stand alone to sequence /record in (used to use a Hapax midi sequencer, and I do have a Roland Fantom but that doesnt work with audio only midi - I do use a DAW at home). So teh MPC One+ is not ojnly cheaper than buying a suitable laptop but would also add other capabilities (granted that I dont need now but that can be utilised).

What you want to do is actually very easy to do on the MPC.

You can treat one sequence as one song. Put the WAV file on Audio Track 1, and put your MIDI cue data on Track 2. For the next song, just move to Sequence 2, place the new WAV on Track 1, and add the MIDI on Track 2 again.

The MPC can handle up to 128 sequences in one project, so you could run up to 128 songs in a single project. Each sequence can also have its own BPM, which means they don't all have to share the same tempo. And since it supports disk streaming, you don't really have to worry about memory limits for the audio files.

Im considering using Song mode as well - and will try both ways. song mode would allow me to chop the track into sections - and I can loop some.

So - I can start a song, loop the intro while the singer talks to the audience so its not over dead air - then when hes done trigger the next part which is the main body of the track. they can talk as long ort short as they like.

That may be a POUITA to set up - as transitions would need to be spot on and being a recorded WAV its not as easy as a sequenced passage. Might not work, but it might.
