MPC One 3.6 Track mutes automation not recording

This is driving me mad as it did work at some point but now is just not happening consistently.

My workflow:

I create one sequence with all the tracks

Copy sequence, then do the arrangement in the second sequence

Hit the write automation button, mute the tracks, play the loop, turn off automation. On the track mute settings, BOTH 'track mute per sequence & track mute events write automation' are ticked.

The automation is not recorded!

Any ideas?! It's so annoying, as for me that's the best / easiest / quickest way to do arrangements.
