Anyone ever send a warranty repair to Akai? My MPC live 3 had a faulty touchscreen and they say it will take 2 months because of a backorder on parts. That seems like alot
Occasionally unresponsive. They are replacing the wire connecting the touch screen to board. It's on backorder from akai. It will be out for months as per contracted repair shop that Akai told me to send the unit to. On one hand I'm happy there is warranty, but this wait is painful.
You should try asking for a new unit (or B stock), 2 months is a long time, they could at least loan you something. MPC Live 3 itself is in stock, so there's no excuse in that respect.
I too have experienced an unresponsive screen on my Live 3, just the once so far and it eventually started working again seemingly of its own accord (continual rebooting did nothing to fix it).If it happens again I will definitely file a warranty claim. BUt ultimately in my job I cannot be without the Live 3 for that long, so I would have to buy a new one and sell the repaired unit when it eventually comes back.
But I agree, warranties are great, but the wait times can be too long, often months. The reality is most will only provide repair unless they are 'unable to repair', in which case they will replace or refund (in the UK at least). I guess you could argue that as the part is out of stock, then they are indeed currently 'unable to repair' (within a reasonable time frame).
Just thought to update the forum on my attempt to get akai to recognize that 2 months is too long for an RMA repair, but they didn't budge and said contact the third party repair shop that Akai has contracted to do the warranty repair. Seems like akai is not taking responsibility for the repair time.
Anyway, if anyone is considering repair work from warranty, particularly in Canada, know it can be a long wait and have a backup plan....
Yes, unfortunately what is deemed as an acceptable timescale for a repair is often undefined legally (from both the perspective of your statutory consumer rights and in reference to manufacturer/retailer warranties).
Back in 1999 the SCSI port on my MPC2000XL stopped working and needed a new SCSI fuse (a minor job that I would likely do myself these days!). After 4 months my MPC was still not repaired (backlog on the part, which is of course a very generic part on sites like Mouser), in the end I managed to persuade the retailer to just give me their store's demo unit. I think they were glad to see the back of me.
My life would have been very different if I'd never got that XL repaired, probably would have sacked off the whole MPC ecosystem.
Anyway, good luck with this, let us know how long it eventually took.
Thanks for that colour ...the connector for the touchscreen is very generic part too. Perhaps akai purposely puts these parts on backlog to discourage warranty repairs. It's a 30 min fix...
Anyway...I guess I can learn how to use my other gear now...
Sooo....apparently my MPC was repaired much sooner and is now being shipped back. I think akai behind the scenes pushed things along... So it's not as bad as I originally posted.
The Repair Center probably received it and Said "Ain't nothin wrong with this screen" lol. I believe its a 3.7 Bug. Because my Live 3 Screen Freezes up every so often. I just stay patient, fiddle with Buttons and it becomes responsive in 30 secs or so.
I think like a MPC. A program is a tool. If the sculpture don't look right, Don't blame the chisel.. MPC5000, MPC4000, MPC3000, MPC 2500, MPC 2000XL MPC X/LIVE 2/3/ONE
