Hey legends,

I’m new to the MPC world and still very green, so forgive me if this is a basic question. Ive also had a little browse and not found my answer just yet, so apologies if Its deep in the threads.

I’ve been organising my samples and expansions (I’m a bit OCD with this stuff ). I really like how tidy everything looks when expansions show up properly in the MPC browser with the artwork and everything.

I’ve been converting some older packs into expansions. A few of them originally came with MPC 1000 kits, so they include .PGM files.

I know I can still open the PGM files directly, but they don’t show up in the Expansion browser.

If I go to Browse → Files → Places → Expansions, then open the expansion folder (for example 909 From Mars), I can find the PGM file and load it manually, and it works fine.

But obviously, since I’m a bit crazy about organisation, it’s frustrating that the kits don’t appear in the expansion browser like proper MPC expansions.

So my question is:

Is there a way to convert .PGM kits into .XPM programs so they show up correctly inside the expansion browser?

Or is there a recommended workflow people use when bringing MPC 1000 kits into modern MPC expansions?

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks so much for the quick response.

I’ll give that a go now.

Is there any way to do this without manually loading every PGM and saving it? I’ve got a lot of Sample From Mars sample packs, and quite a few of them are in PGM format.

Grab a copy of MPC Software 2.15 (maybe also works with MPC Beats), drag all the PGM kits into a project, save the project, open up the project data folder and copy all the XPM files and samples. XPM will load into MPC3. Should be fine as the samples from mars kits are just basic sample-to-pad assignments, nothing remotely funky to deal with.

Doesnt work with MPC Software 3 as they changed the project format so program files no longer present as separate files in the project data folder.
