When I first got the MPC, I was under the impression that it had a bunch of content pre-installed as standard. But when I started the set up process it seemed to indicate that I needed to download and install the content, so I started that process. But then I realized I was actually installing the desktop versions of things to my computer… I think? So then, I *think* I managed to do the MPC version installs, but mid-process, I realized it was eating through internal hard drive space rapidly. I had seen the suggestion to put installations on a secondary drive - either a second internal SSD or a SD card. So I stopped, picked up an SD card and retried on that.
I had thought it worked… but last night I was doing a tutorial and wanted to try slicing a loop. I assumed there would be drum loops installed as part of the content, but I couldn’t find a single one. I explored my internal drive and SD card and found lots of duplicate folder names, but most (not all) of the folders were empty. I found “drum kits” but no loops.
Admittedly, I’m new to the Akai ecosystem so maybe I’m misunderstanding folder structure and terminology. I can’t find a comprehensive list of what specifically should be included in the installs and where to find it, so I can’t check if everything is there.
The long and short of it is that, for several reasons, I feel like maybe I fumbled the install process. Maybe I don’t need a clean install, but in cases it’s like this, sometimes that’s the easiest way to go. Maybe I did it right but the content is stored in a folder structure I don’t understand yet, or maybe there’s just no loops included with the content?
I definitely don’t need to do the nuclear option if I could find a way to be sure that I’ve done this correctly and to safely erase duplicate folders to clear up hard drive space.
Anyway, thank you again for responding and apologies for the wall of text! Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
