Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

The original + got Wifi (anything else?). For the gen2 I'd like to see MPCe pads.

I understand that the MPC One is meant to be entry level. OTOH the lack of the MPCe pads seriouly cripples the compatibilty with newer sample packes (and synths?).

I'm not sure it's going to be that useful on such small pads though, and currently implementation of MPCe in Akai's own products is virtually non-existent. I think step 1 is to make MPCe available in keygroups and plugins, until that happens it still feels a little gimmicky, especially as Akai don't appear to be releasing anything that actually supports MPCe. I don't see any of their expansions mention MPCe in the descriptions, do you know of any that have utilised it?

I've added it to a couple of my own expansions, it's a lot of extra work though and still somewhat guesswork as to how people want to see it implemented.

If they was gonna do that they would've done it. The One+ was basically the some body as the OG One, so the G2 One+ would need to be bigger to fix the MPCe pads. They could do that, but I see them making a MPCe MIDI controller first, as that would cover more users.

I was not aware that the pads are smaller in comparison. But I have gear with much smaller physical controls so I wouldn't mind :)

I don't follow Akai's expansion releases. And you astonish me by telling that Akai doesn't push the new feature.

Odd.

I still haven’t seen anybody use the new pads in ways that actually benefit music production or performance in ways that wasn’t possible before.

To me the mpc kind of hit a wall on features and they had to come up with something new to justify new units.

Why do you need these pads on an mpc one?

I'm not sure they have 'anything' that specifically targets their own latest features, other than one demo expansion for oscillators and one for MPCe pads. None of their commercial stuff has anything beyond basic DRUM tracks and older style keygroups as far I can can see. Honestly I don't own any of them so perhaps they do have something and they just don't advertise it, but their latest one (Progressive Techno) specifically states 'MPC2 ready drum kits'! There's no mention of mod matrix, advanced keygroup, oscillators, mpce etc anywhere on the product descriptions.
