Clip select

Hey all

So glad I found these forums and the wealth of great info on here.

Was wondering if there's an way to automatically select the clip that is currently playing on the Force?
When I'm editing beats and loops I often find myself having to return to matrix mode and press the select button and then hit the pad to select it, then press the clip button in order to see the notes displayed on screen/step seq.

It would be more helpful if the display "followed" the clip that was actually playing - is there a setting/shortcut that controls this?

I'm not sure that your mental model is matching the way that it's set up.

It's not as if you have a single clip playing at any one time; you have a set of clips playing, and that set could be as small as 0, or 1, but it could also be over 100. So the question is then: when you say "the clip that was actually playing" how do you differentiate that one from all the other clips that are actually playing?

For example, I have a drum track selected (the track select button is highlighted) which contains 3 clips.
I select a specific clip (via the select button and touch the pad) so it displays on screen and play it.
When I then launch another clip within the same track (or even via the launch scene button) the clip selected/displayed remains on the original clip.

That is really not helpful if you want to make lots of varying edits to different clips and would expect it to follow the scene so you can jump around different clips easier.

Even it you press the clip on the screen - you don't get an option from the popup to "select" - it appears you can only do this from the button. If you just select edit from the popup the play cue does not follow the notes, it only does this if you manually select it first.

Hope that makes sense and still feels there would be an option somewhere to configure this

I seem to recall that there is a way, and it sort of flashes up on the screen when you bring up a new clip - long-press on the new clip pad?

closest setting i’ve seen is in the arranger view “hitting pad selects all events” but thats not what im after

clip select follows current scene would be the logical name for it

I walked in to the same problem.

Hi, might be late but with Shift + Launch u choose 'Tapping a clip selects it" and that's it
