Thanks for reading. My goal is to create a MIDI (or drum?) program for the Force that I can save as a sort of template to control my SP-404mk2 with the notes (pads) mapped to the order I want.
Basically I'd like to have quadrant A on the Force control Bank C on the 404, Force quadrant B as 404 bank D, etc...
Doing some digging I learned that the notes will jump all over the place unless I change the following in note mode (aka pattern perform on the X/Live?):
"type" to chromatic
"pad rows" to continuous
"scale" to chromatic
After doing this and sending to the proper channel to the 404, the pads on the Force do control the pads on the 404, but still in the undesired places. Have to keep in my mind that the labeled numbers on the 404's pads (on the unit itself) being as PAD1 top left and PAD16 at bottom right. Of course on the Force, a drum program has A01 on the bottom left and A16 on the top right of its quadrant. With this Force+404 configuration so far, the pads count upward in the right "direction" but instead of Force A05 playing 404's PAD C5, it continues along the bottom row on the Force's pads so that Force pad B01 now triggers 404's PAD C5. So that means I have access to 4 banks at once on the 404, but they notes go up chromatically following a strict left to right fashion so instead of 4 quadrants (mapped to banks), I have each of my 404 banks represented on the force's pads as two long rows of 8 pads, like a pair of launch rows... trying to be as clear as possible here haha.
My MPCX apparently can have the ability to change the note mapping from track to track (?) but I haven't tested it because I can't get these stupid trs adapters to work. but I see no MIDI option in any of the menus on the force that might suggest that this can be done. I read somewhere that this can be done but only in controller mode. Is this true? I only use standalone mode.
I got out my old OG 404 and triggered its pads with the MPCX. I was able to map some note numbers to the desired order, but when I closed the window and went back to the main screen, it has defaulted back to he way is was before I went to make changes. Is there a way to save these settings? I thought maybe I could use the X to map the notes, then save that configuration somehow and import it into my force session?
