NAMM is literally around the corner. I'm sure we'll see some sort of video of Akai Pro either displaying it or reluctantly discussing it.

Honestly I like the looks, no way to truly judge turned off, but it looks like it could be friends with the Soviet era Polivoks. Image
not a fan of the rectangular looking pads though, have to play that in person but it's an odd choice IMO.

Tbh it looks wack! Im not a fan of banging my drums on pads like that. If it has some great features that are not on the Live/X then aesthetics don't matter.

I can't see any reason they would start splitting up Clips in the MPC into another software, so my guess is this is 99% compatible with MPC Live and X in terms of actual functionality. The main thing here is for people who like working with clips and Scenes like you do in Ableton Live IMO.

With that in mind I really hope the MPC Live/X gets the same support for clips, because I'm fine with working on a 4x4 grid for clips

@machinesworking

Well I think 100% compatible,
They use the same software.
And next Mpc update is focused on clip programs as Dan said on GS.
I wonder if they will make 4 banks of 16 clips on clip mode so Live will have the same exactly operatibility of Apc

Brief update:
My test unit has an interesting feature where when you sample from the analog in, if you choose normalize it will actually make the sample sound louder. I tried it with drums and it works well.

Also, having the 4 RFX units on the USB hub is kind of buggy when connected to my SSL through ADAT. I noticed that channels 96-103 seem to be dropping out.

There's also a new swing preset called 'swag' which can be modulated. For example, say you're doing a swag high hat roll for your trap drums and want to change time signatures from 5/4 to 1/64 in one step, you can do so with the pads as they have aftertouch on them like the roli keyboard that costs a few grand.

Good info, didn’t know you had one.

Richie, how’s the sample edit mode? How are the qlinks laid out? Is it still start 1x 10x 100x 1000x? Or is it a mix of start and end?

The qlinks are laid out where if you turn the knob right, the cursor will move right but if you move it left it will also move left. If you keep turning it right, it will go to the end of the sample which is kind of weird because the same thing happens when I use my Akai S6000. I guess Akai is going into the archives for options now.

You can choose between 1x 10x 100x 1000x but also 10000x now which is good because it means it has the computing power to handle it without lagging.
