jfwy. Rec Arm and REC so far apart looks really odd to me.

It is odd as hell, but its one of those, once you embrace the workflow and seperation of screen and pads - it makes sense.

All the Clip and song/scene controls are at the top of the Force.

The channel selection and channel options however are handled at the bottom of the unit - so mute/solo/arm are all in next to/in a row with the buttons they correspond to. It makes sense, but you are so right about how it looks.
