Here's a really great video by YouTuber Joe Filburn showing how to latch a MIDI note so it keeps playing while you do your synth-stuff. Also shows how to use phase looping to make all kinds of cool off beat loops like or stuff like Steve Reich's 'Different Trains", which is dope AF!

A lot of things can be really cool, if you disregard expectations, legitimacy, respectability and genres. Many people must have created something like that by accident, but abandoned it as sounding weird and socially unacceptable. But they hadn't heard about Steve Reich being a respected composer.
