Record, trim, and save a sample without it's speed changing?

I'm building a project agnostic sample library of quotes and I want to record voice samples then save them without their speed changing. I'd like the Force to default to this way of sampling. At the moment that's clearly not happening for me.

The BPM setting has an effect on the speed so maybe that's a clue? Is there a way to, for want of a better word, "disconnect" the sample from any sort of BPM constraints?

no processing is applied to raw samples afaik. only after you enter Sample Edit and then apply one of the processing functions

Make sure you have Warp off.

I'm trimming, then "extracting" the trim, then saving the trim.

I have "audio tracks auto warp" set to "off" in "preferences".

What about in the Track editor?

Try loading the speech samples to drum track pads and trigger them with notes.
