I just bought a second-hand AKAI Force from a rental company in an eBay auction for very cheap. The thing is that it was offered without the product license.

I just wonder, what am I missing out on if I cannot register the product?

I suppose I'm still able to cancel the purchase if this is a big deal.

Thanks!!

You can register a used unit as long as you have the serial number. This should be on a sticker on the underside, and listed in the software (menu > preferences > info).

Any issues, raise a ticket with Akai and they'll register it for you.

As for missing out, I'm not sure if you actually need to register your Force in order to access all the optional plugins (free and paid), I think you just need an inMusic account. Other than that the Force doesn't really come with anything other than an Ableton Live Lite license and maybe a few crap expansions.

But regardless, you can register used units, so you shouldn't miss out on anything.

Thanks for your answer.

I thought that the product serial could just be linked to one account at a time, and the previous owner would have to unregister it from their account. But that is out of the question as this unit very likely is being rented to a bunch of different people.

I'll keep the post updated if I find any difficulties registering the unit.

Akai allow for second hand sales, at one point it was automatic, entering a valid hardware serial would work immediately even if it was previously registered, on the assumption that you were the new owner of a used unit. These days it seems that you might have to contact them to transfer, probably for security reasons. But the previous owner is not required to perform a transfer.

If you get an error with the serial just contact akai. You might have to provide a photo of the unit.

I have never registered my Force and I don't even have an inMusic account IIRC, or at least I haven't downloaded or accessed any Force related stuff through it. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. My Force has never been connected to the internet, updates have been installed via offline file copy methods etc. No paid crap, no online authorization crap. I use samples and MIDI, and some of the basic synths.
