I'm thinking of purchasing A Behringer RD9, how to connect?

I found out for my self that I am a real lover of 909 sounds for my rhythms. A real 909 is not in reach for me (and most people I guess). So after purchasing a Behringer TD3MO 303 clone, I was looking at the Behringer RD9, a 909 clone.

The only thing that concerns me is the fact that it has 10 outputs, individual for every part of the drums. As far as I know, an Akai Force can only handle 8 audio tracks.

So option one is the cheapest: buy the RD9, and sample sounds with tweaks I like into a drumprogram of the Force. This way I can keep using my Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 3rd gen audio interface. I have all inputs occupied, but can use the two front ones for sampling and disconnect my bass DI and TD3MO temporary.

Option two is way more expensive: beside buying a RD9, also buy a Zoom L20 digital mixing desk. Then I would have 20 inputs, but still 8 audiotracks on the Force. But I could use the Zoom L20 to make a stereomix for the Force, but do not know how good the FX on the Zoom L20 are...... I can still sample the RD9, without patching and repatching, put my favorite sounds in a drumprogram and off I go.
Option two is expensive: almost €1000,= for the Zoom mixer, €300,= for the Behringer RD9, then some cables and stuff and where possible Decksavers for the new devices. That can set me back like €1750,=

Option three: buying a very good samplepack of a 909, but then you don't have the fun of tweaking yourself!

Has anyone of you a 909, 909 clone or a RD9 in particular, and if yes how do you use it?

The Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen has ADAT in/out, so why not add eight more input channels?

So many possibilities, it's hard to see the whole picture in one view......

Im only familiar with a real 909 but there you want to have the separate outs for individual processing. I can only imagine its the same for all those clones.

Personally I would sample the individual outs in 16 bars or so and then trigger them in a drum program.

Thanx, that is a fantastic idea, seems to be the solution: all the tweaking on the TD9 and all the FX and stuff from the Force!

Then have a separate drumrack for intro, main, chorus. drop end ending.......

Or combine the contents of those drumracks!

I have decided to sell some stuff if it all works out well; I ordered a Behringer RD9 (the 909 clone), a Soundcraft UI24R Mixer, a Behringer DI-800 V2 (8 DI's in a box), a Decksaver for the RD9 and then some cables and stuff.

The soundcraft has 22 ins and 10 outs on hardware, an USB matrix of 32 ins/outs, houses FX's by Lexicon, Digitech and DBX and is operated by either WIFI or Ethernet with a webinterface.





If this will all work as I planned it, I'm going to sell some stuff, like my Ableton Push2, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen, Lexicon MPX-1 FX processor and my Fender P-Bass.

I'm very excited and can't wait for my goodies to arrive! Unfortunately, I'm busy renovating my kitchen and I have not much spare time to do everything I like to do. I will test if it all works, and later I sell my other gear I do not need anymore. At that time I mount the Soundcraft in my 19" rack, and re-cable my homestudio.

I hope it will all arrive at tuesday.......
