J Dilla's Chopping Technique?

I was reading The Source Magazine about Common's new album. It said that Kanye was inspired by Dilla's different chopping technique. I was wondering if anyone knows what he does that is so different?

He is well known from not using the obvious part of a song, or a break. He used to chop drums for example from a part that no one else would think could be used. More less it's about that thing I suppose...
That's what I heard in some interview with one of his friends.

hear how he wants to chop it and then chops it. why are you studying him? or are you tryin to study chopping techniques in general?

I was just curious to know what he did that was so different.

I mean yea, I listen to his records and they sound really rugged and almost sloppy sounding (in a good way) with the chops.

I just wanted to know what kind of "technique" he was using that was special enough for them to even mention it in an article.

all he had is good and rare records.. and a very good ear for music....

no "Spacial" chopping techniques or non of that...
