using a 2000xl with cubase sx

how do i make cubase sx the controller for the mpc? as well how do i record the whole beat in multiple tracks? any help would be rewarded generously!

Thats a good question...I've been a Protools guy for a few minutes but I am getting ready to make the switch to Cubase myself.Protools software does not play well with others and they require alot of CPU power to run.How long have you been using Cubase?

Does your MPC have the 8 outs option.If not you will have to do one track at a time by using the solo function on the MPC.What interface/soundcard are you running?

i have a creative audigy 2 souncard?so will i have to get an expansion board as well as something to expand the imputs on my sound card? i was also wondering how i sequence a keyboard on an pmc 200xl and keep the keyboard sounds instead of triggering the midi's?

Either play whatever melody and sample it into the MPC or just use midi.The easiest and least expensive thing to do would be buy a used mixer that has maybe 8 to 16 inputs and run all your audio through that and then into your soundcard.It will take you a few passes to get your song into the computer but it will work untill you can save up the money for a better interface/soundcard.

Heh, you're right ernest, the only thing I've seen crash my friend's G5 is the Digi 002.

Digidesign is in bed with the computer companies that they recommend you use their stuff with(Carillon,Music XPC etc...).It's crazy.The Protools stuff is hit or miss unless you have the TDM setup and a $4000 computer and that stuff is way overpriced.The best bet would be to get Cubase SX or Nuendo and get the plugin PCI board from UAD I think it's called.I spoke with a guy that runs a setup like this and he claims that he can run mad plugins without his computer even so much as coughing.Not to mention that Cubase will run as many Audio tracks as your machine can handle.



LukeMC I don't think the MPC will send Midi signals while it is in record mode.You are going to have to run the audio from your keyboard into the MPC, press record and then play whatever melody you want.Once you do that you can use the MPC's sample editing to make the sample fit your drums or what not.Your best bet though is to read up on Midi because although it does not transmit audio it can do what I think your trying to do.

Man I have been saving up for that digi 002 rack, and now im reading that it aint all that...! Here's my situation, I already have the tascam US122 in which it only allows me to record only two tracks at a time and its good for the cubase...But when I upgrade my 4000 with the 8 outs what will I use in place of the tascam that has 8 outs!... Is there a module like the digi 001 or 002 rack I can purchase that will run with cubase?....!

any soundcard with multiple ins from a good company. Maudio, MOTU, whatever. get as many ins as you can afford.

Do they make the ones with the faders also?...!

you're better off with a mackie control than the digi 002. since the digi has no master fader, and comes crippled with pro tools software.

it's not an audio interface, it's just the control.

Check this, my friend is cheif engineer at a studio downtown, he has a dual 2GHz G5, and a Digi 002. He runs logic, but Protools drivers have to run in the background. He was checking his cpu usage, and 68 audio tracks with about 40 Waves Plugins takes his about to 23% usage, the Digi DRIVERS used 52%. And it caused crashes.

Needless to say, he got an RME card and is much happier. And my homie knows protools better than you know your mama, HD systems and all that.

His theory is that they cripple the lower end stuff to encourage you to upgrade to their full system.
