Software- I'm thinking about.....

Buying a software app to compliment my MPC 1000. Anyone know of what might be a good application to pick up? I know of many such as Logic, Cubase, Pro-tools LE etc... But I'm not sure which route to take. I don't Record at my home, mostly pre-production & editing, then I bring my work to the studio.

However is there a nice software app out there that will add some edge to my sound, or even increase the time efficiency of my work? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pro Tools... If you're doin Pre-Production it's perfect because every studio on Earth has a Pro Tools set-up pretty much... So you can add some plug-ins and tweak your sound... Then you can put the Pro Tools Session on CD and bring it right to the studio if you want...

I'm not too educated on how the set of Pro-Tools works. Will I have to midi directly into my PC or is there another method of recording into the program. If there is more than one way, then which is most effecticve?

Well I'm not too educated about the MPC 1k so I couldn't really help you out... MIDI would be the wrong way to go about it though because MIDI doesn't send Audio Data... It would Basically just Sequence everything... And if you're sequencing with Pro Tools then whats the point of having an MPC...

I'm sure someone on this site has a 1k and uses Pro Tools... Check the 1k forum...

I think software is the joint right now.I would get the whole usb transfer thing setup between your MPC1k and computer.Then I would get Reason 2.5 which comes with some cool soft synths and soft samplers and Reason also has tens of thousands of sounds that are available for it.I would also get a program like Cubase or Pro-Tools(Keep in mind that Pro-Tools is cool but it does not play well with others)to record all of your MPC beats and stuff and then use Re-wire to track out the Reason stuff.Essentially Reason is a all in one Production setup as it does come with a seqeuncer but I would do the sequencing on the MPC.Also I would get Re-Cycle so that you could chop up diffrent beats and stuff.If you don't know what any of these programs are do some research and then you will better understand how they could all work together and how the possibilites are endless.

i know cubase sx (top of the line) and cubase sl (second level) but cubase se ($99) can get the same job done. one ideal software setup is cubase (sx, sl, se), reason (propellerheads) and intakt (native instruments) and another is live 3/4(host app) and reason.

intakt and live 3/4 will handle all your looping needs, time stretching, syncing the bpm.

do not sleep on reason because all the major sample producer (zero-g, sonic reality, etc) are creating refill (reason samples) for reason. plus you can create your own samples and then load them.

cubase se/reason/intakt ===> $500
live 3/4/reason ===> $600

reason refill (eq. to roland jv1080 or anything in this class) ===> $400

so for about $1000 you could have a pretty nice project studio. then add a mpc. could do some damage.

if I was looking for a new seq/composition tool for home use - Ableton live 4.

cakewalk sonar.........magix studio. very easy to use

gopnna stick by and repeat - ableton live is where it is at today. if yo uare buying a new seq. to start out with, forget cubase, sonar etc. get Live.

I jus come back from a long weekend festival with over 150 acts and djs playing. of those who was using laptops to aid their set, about 85 % were using live. when I asked them about it the overwheliming response was that it is a creative sequencer package in the studio, easy to use and the bomb if yo uare ever gonna take your lap top to the stage, be it Djing, sequenceing, whatever....

at least check out the demo of version 4. I'm just about to load it up...
