OK, I've been driving myelf nuts all afternoon trying to figure this out.
MPC 2kxl w efx board s what im on. I have a string loop set up and ready to go, except that I need to filter out one small bass kick and some light hats/cymbals (maybe 3 total), I cannot get it to go away, any advice would help. the bass isnt such an issue since Its right on a drum kick and my drums do a good job of hiding it/turining it into a cool sounding ghost note, but the hats/cymbals are pissing me off!!!!! aaaarrgh
any advice would be appreciated on how to filter these out on the mpc or in a software editing program like soundforge.

cheers

um experiment with parametric eqs in soundforge, but it is going to be hard to filter that much out. i mean you can kinda get it out, but not totally clean. can you lowpass filter the hats cymbal most of the way out? if you post it up and i take a look at it over the weekend and get back to you. you can email it to me at [email protected] if you like

oh and the best advice i can give is that sometimes you have to listen to the samples and do what they lead you to, maybe add alot of stereo reverb and a lowpass and the reverse the whole loop. you never know what you may find through experimentation. i did this mixoff last year and one of the samples was this great perfectly clean long trumpet solo. obviously everyone and they mama was going to have that trumpet on their songs so i flippped and tuned it down alot and added alot of delays and chrous and reverb and distortion and made a 70's progressive rock guitar solo sounding thing out of it. i really really dig how it came out. lead the music and the samples lead you some of the time, you might be suprised what you will end up with.

I had that problem t0o I used sound forge... I zoomed in on sample where the snare was at and removed it... That worked for me, I would try it you can always undo it.

werd, thanks for all the advice, I basically have it now where its not really a big deal, I can hear the hats but I have them filtered so they sound kinda like ghost notes, I just equed MY hats to sound like the ones in the sample and it worked out pretty cool. and I also (thank god) have the 1 bass drum sounding like a nice litte ghost note too, so its all gravy.

friggin MPC filter section is such a pain in the butt.
