Low End on Samples to create bass

Just filter out the high and mid frequencies and thats it??? what type of samples create that dark low end bass that you can hear in the works of say Pete Rock, Premier and the like?

if u sample anything that has a little bass pumpin out, lower the highs and mids and just keep the low end and youll hear the bass.. just listen to your samples, u can get a 1 bar loop, lay it, add drums and ish, then copy the one bar loop and send it to another pad and lower the highs and mids and lay it behind the main loop to get a little bassline going.. this is kindergarden ish but hope it gets u on ur way..
