Tips on how to do it quicker? im using pt mpowered8 with mpc 2500.

Don't worry, it's just some musical terms that's used to identify certain aspects of composing. Yes, this is the method that a lot of folks use, so it helps to understand how to structure songs and be on the same accord as everyone else.
Plus like it was mentioned before, finding the right tempo of the sample or learning how to time stretch or compress it to get it to fit within the main project tempo is an important feature to get to know as well.
