Hi-Tek's older tracks...

Who else thinks that Hi-Tek's older stuff has the illest drums ever... His drums always sounded so gritty and nice.... The first Hi-Teknology album, the Reflection Eternal album, and the tracks he did on the Phife Dawg solo album have the illest drum sounds... He just finds crazy snares and claps... Nowadays he is all about sampling live drums.. It still sounds pretty good and I know that he's trying to evolve his sound but I really just love the way his drums sounded in his older stuff.... Those 2 albums really influence the way I try to do my drums...

I thought he always layered real drums too on the 3k

in scratch magazine he said he only sample his drums from vinyls and run his sounds into reel to reel or tube preamp to add some warmth and maybe the 3k got a really nice sound but he said it must not be all digital...dont forget the analog...for me the illest drums are from havoc and j dilla...love hi tek drums too...check the <get a hold> from atcq the drums are so beautiful to me...

agreed, people always give dilla the props when it comes to drums, to me it was always hi tek.

Said this a bunch of times on here before but besides the reflection eternal stuff, hi teks best work was with MOOD KARMA. The album DOOM to be exact.

Yeah I remember reading that interview he said he runs his drums thru the Avalon 737.. I don't see the point of running drums that were sampled from vinyl to a r2r tape BC those drums were originally recorded to tape anyway.. I always wanted to get a r2r and try it out anyway tho...

i believe is for tape saturation and maybe when he sample real drumset..i want a reel to reel for mastering my tracks.when i record my main out of mpc to my tape deck its like if the tape will link all the sound together it s hard to tell for me in english but it sound really better after that!!!! love his drums too..hi tek is ill

Hi-tek, to me, is like the Jr. Dilla.

And I only say Jr. because he hasn't released as much shit as Dilla.

Dudes mixing and mastering is wonderful. And has an ear for beautiful sounds.

ERICK SERMON........... is all i gotta say ( Dilla, Madlib & Karriem Riggins are still on my top notch list )

He used an MPC60 in the old days and I guess he just had a good ear for sampling, mixing, etc.

That's what I thought too. At least on Hi-Teknology I hear Talib Kwali rhyming something about the beat comming out of the mpc 60 (mpc60, nowadays rare but still sound crispy or something like that)
