retapin' the beat

If i record my beat on tape using some old pioneer deck (i going to get one from my old friend), what will happen with sounding? Will i get the same effect like old mpc's?
PS. I got digital one mpc1000, wich connected directly to the old turntable..

erm, you know the old MPCs are digital too, right?

they don't record to tape

if you record to tape you'll get certain sound characteristics that are hard to emulate digitally - but I doubt it'll sound like an old MPC

hah=) I mean, what exact effect i can get?%) Would everething sound like one? You know, sometimes drums sound not like sample, dont know how to say..

If you are about glueing the samples together. Thats what happening when you are learn how to mix a song. Its not like : record a **** mix to tape and everything is glued together.

Is it an analog sound/effect you're trying to capture? Going through old gear is kinda like a hit or miss scenario. Now if you can get your hands on a old tube pre or just an old pre amp in general, you'll have a better chance at accomplishing what it is you're after.

Some daw programs do have a "tape saturation" effect you can use, but I don't know how good that would be if it were compared to the real thing.

Running your sounds hot into tape can give a nice effect, but it depends on the machine ur using. I tried it with a 4-track tascam workstation last week and the noise was ridiculous... totally not worth it.. But it depends on the quality of your tape deck I guess. A 1/4" reel to reel with 15 ips will probs sound good... maybe even 7.5 ips... I don't know too much about tape, but I know I'd like a good reel-to-reel to try out
Experimentation is good. Juss do it.

i tried to record beat on the tape using new tape and some pioneer media center.. i heard only background noise, maybe snares sounded a bit unusual.. and nothing more.
PS. Other snare sound may caused by old amplifer and preamp.. theyre about 10-15 years old=]
Now i going to find some old soivet synth.. if it will sound nice, i would re-make some my beats using it=\

As Jimmie mentioned, and to expand on it, the tape heads, the tape itself and how you drive it are factors to consider.

If all you want is some type of saturation effect then there are some half decent plugins out there that can work well.

If you are after low bit resolution then that can be achieved with 8-12 bit samplers.

If you fancy white noise then go down the cassette route..
