THE BEST AUDIO FILE CONVERTER

I know this has probably been asked before but I'm making it a new topic cause new programs get introduced all the time.

Anyhow, what in your opinion, is the best audio converter on the market. I'm looking to get something that reads and converters all types of audio files from one type to another.....

What are you using?

mac or pc?

i use soundforge, does the job supports most formats and sounds fine for the work im doing.

They are serious conversion.


They even program in code that makes stuff sound like it was sampled on the original sampler. In the case of the roland s series at least.


And they are expanding it all the time.

cool edit pro 2.0 lets u do batch file convert...which comes in handy if you have a lot of files to do

Audacity (freeware) has its converter in the 'lame' something you download off of the audacity site... As far as the overall sound quality, I'm not sure.... It never sounds colored to me, but I only use it when I need it.

Choppin' loops is frickin' awesome on audacity... makes it perfect, and you can export the selection (loop) as a wav... great for transfer to MPC!

a lot fo the hi quality drum samples are at 24 bit now. I was interested in a set designed for NI's BATTERY and planned to convert it to 16bit for my MPC 1000 with dbpoweramp. Is that a major NO NO ? Will the audio quality noticeably suffer ?
