Where are the breakbeat diggers at?

You need to find some musicians that you like. Look for producers, studio drummers, studio guitarists, etc........ for example (and this is an easy one) anything with Clyde Stubblefield on the traps will have sick drums. Anything with Chick Corea on the keys will have sick keys. Hank mobley on the sax, etc....

Get your music history weight up before you go out and drop 100 beans on a gang of records with cool covers.

Look at dates, where the LP was recorded, who sat in on the session, who contributed to the album, who's featured, etc etc etc........

also id say, dont scrap the record if you dont find that "gem of a loop" ya know....ive found some loops that are awesome, but it took some tweaking, like 16 levels, to detune it, and changing the start and end points.....sometimes i even had to chop an end note, and copy it back in so it hits twice....shit like that.

I guess the best way to realize if it can loop is to try it. Sometimes ill go through like 5 samples before i find something I am feeling....if it has even 2% seeming potential, ill sample it and see, just to be shure. if not, ill delete it.

i love the ish outta the zone function. get your little pieces together filter, fx, tune, sequence. after that im nearly done.
ive been finding some nioce 45s but no jazz lately. lot os drums no keys.

im all about the breaks i usually go for italian/international records ,piano records, string records every now and then brass records ,soundtracks and if sumthing has a ill picture on it ill usually pick it up, i mostly loop breaks , maybe pitch shift it have 4 bars of the original and 4 bars of the pitch shift ,add sum bass from the mophatt and thats my beat

P.S. Invest in a portable turntable. They're only like 129 bucks these days, and they will pay for themselves with in a week.

but usually if you go to the dollar bin and get local records/or records of a non major label. Get to know labels too...like the big ones. you can probably also ask the dude at the counter at the record shop-they got tons of information in their head even though they dont dig...ask"have you heard of them?" if they say no, then its probably obscure, assuming hes one of those vinyl junkies who knows every artist.

get to know labels, and read lists on the website above, that way, youll at least have names in your head to check out, or stay away from.

if its some artist my older brother, or parents would have listened to, i consider it "known" so i stay away from it....if my mom wont recognize it, then its game.....ya know?

Them Drum Crazy ish's are weak but with some EQing and filtering and whatever you can flip them. I use loops sometimes, but usually I chop signle hits, kicks and snares and play my patterns. Usually when I dig I ain't even looking for drums but they always seem to turn up, they're everywhere!
