Where do most of you get your basslines from? I've got about 5 sample CD's full of great drum sounds, but I need something for the basslines to take the beat to the next level. I've even got some cool horns, but they are only one hit samples....So with that, if any of you could give me some good advice on how to put together a good bass groove or some good horn patterns I'd appreciate it.......all i have is the MPC....I don't use computers or anything like that......I haven't started sampling from my vinyl collection yet either, and I'm sure that is another option. Thanx, people

Although I mostly do bass with my keyboard or with my computer (running Reason) for a long time I did everything on the MP, and for me it was just about finding a nice long bass tone. I know there's some free ones on the net even on the disks that came with the mp.

So, I'd assign the bass tone to a pad, tune it to the song, filter it to sound really "bassy", set it to note-off and then I'd play it using the 16-levels function. Also, when I'd record, I'd turn-off quantizing, otherwise it would sound junky with the note-off.

Now I'm more used to using my keyboard, and my homies who use the ASR-10 can't even imagine doing it with pads, but its totally doable and you can make some real dope ish doing it that way.

Good luck!
