Ok, been doin the mpc thing for years, been almost 100% sample based, Im finally moving into a more MIDI type of set-up, Ive got the Virus B setup and I can play notes by the mpc pads use all 16 parts on the virus etc..
Problem im having and I cant find a clear-cut answer; How do I record the knob movements (lfo, filter, amp env's,etc) on the mpc so when the seq plays the sound modulates and doesnt just play from the last knob setting by varies as I recorded it over the loop? Another question, i usually transpose the keyboard to work around the sounds i have loaded into the pads so when i play the virus i dont hear the drums i have set on those pads..If i turn the track to midi it doesnt make any sounds at all..?? I want to be able to have the banks full of drums thewn turn those sounds off to use the full range of pads..
Oh yeah im on 3k.. I know these are basic MIDI questions, Im a lil buried in trying to inderstand all the parts and a few other lil bits of new gear and I would really apprectiate any straight answers about these issues. Thanks for any help!
Peace.,

Since I'm planning to purchase a virus I will try but I'm no expert. In fact I don't own a hardware synth or 3k anymore. I work on a 4k and soft synths.

First to record virus knob tweaks in the mpc sequencer make sure the virus midi out is going to the 3k midi in and they are on the same channel.

I believe it is better to record notes and cc data on separate tracks not necessary but it is easier for editing.

Make sure the virus is in multi mode to record different parts drum, keys, and etc from different channels to the different midi tracks on your mpc 3k. That way you want lose your recorded data on the keys track if you transpose the octaves. Make you record and stop. Record.

Think of your mpc as a multitrack recorder as far as recording midi data from the virus to the mpc. Each part on it's own track.

Lastly if you want to use the mpc 3k note slider to affect the virus para no way as it was designed for the internal sample engine of the 3k only. The latter mpc 1k on up has this capablilty.

Good luck and enjoy your virus I'm thinking of a TI or TI2.

thanks for the response.. I figured out that i didnt turn the track from drum to midi for the track that contained the knob movements. I still havent sorted how to not have the samples loaded to the pads play when im playing the virus.. I just use bank C (which is empty usually) and transpose the virus to the octave i want to be in and i can work around this problem..
Yeah, MIDI is NOT my strong suit..
