Try to decipher the instuments used within the sample and that will determine the EQing it'll need for your mix.
For example, kicks and basslines would normally be adjusted with the Low EQs. Guitars, snares and pianos would be adjusted with Mid EQs and cymbals, hi-hats and high frequency instruments would be adjusted with High EQs.
When all those things are in their right place the drums will sound in its own realm and won't cause phase-cancellation with the bassline or guitar riff. Ever had a dope bassline, but when you layer it over the drums, certain notes seem to have disappeared? Thats phase-cancellation. EQing it and adjusting pitch can help that alot.
