Yeah, this article has nearly doubled my (Admittedly Meager) Synth knowledge in the past 2 days... Just being able to see, basically, the route taken to shape certain sounds... Excellent.

I still feel like making a good synth is more about messing around and having a good ear thought, even thought it's nice to deconstruct ones that already sound good

nice - thanks for the link, I'll try to recreate some of those on my R3

of course it's better to come up with your own sounds than just copy, but I find it helps me learn if I see how someone else did something. if I know what params give me a Roots Manuva bass, and what params give me an 80s power ballad lead, and what params give me a 90s rave sound, then I'm more likely to be able to make a sound I want on purpose, rather than just trial and error, or lucky accident
