How to built a dope drumkit

how to create a dope drumkit:

don't be lazy.

multiple samples per each hit.
grab yourself multiple kicks (down and upbeats) multiple snares, multiple hats
velocity layer them and USE them velocity layers
layer with various dopeness including vintage drum machine hits and raw wavforms.

do the damn thing. don't be lazy. take a looong time to make that drumkit

when you're looking for breaks
anything close to what you want will do the trick
tuning and layering does the rest.
grab from a variety of breaks too
snare from 1, kicks and hats from another.
grab the kicks/hats from the same break.
gotta gotta gotta other wise it may sound funny
unless you bring a 3rd party hat into the mix

What if the sound you want doesn't exist yet?

If you are hearing it in your head - then it exists. You just have to spend the time to re-create it with your gear

Yeah just sample dope sounds to begin with and you dont need alot of tweeking. I just keep all my sounds saved on the computer and ill layer and EQ them when I'm making a beat. Each beat requires something different with the drums so you need to taylor make each sound as the beat is being created... Like they said you can sample in 8 or 12 bits and it will sound even more grimey, but if you sample from vinyl i dont really see the need because the samples are going to be dirty sounding anyway... If you're drums still arent as dirty as you would like them to be just sample some vinyl noise and put it behind your beat... It definitely adds a nice ambiance to your music...

yes, sure
but it is not only about dirty grimey sounds
it's also about sound dynamics

u hear the noise in your head and u cant create it, well then u need a synthesizer to create that sound. Or you can dig the crates until u find it, maybe its there, maybe not, depends. Doesnt matter tho, ive learned if u are new to the mpc and trying to recreate a sound in ur head u may as well dig a hole to china. the sound u create gets stuck in your head. Im a noob tho so take my 2cents with the saltshaker over ur shoulder and a knok on wood
