Realistic Horns/Brass?

After listening to "All of the Lights" by Kanye and Rihanna, it got me really interested in the usage of horns for a more anthem-y feel...(although Swizz Beatz has been exploiting it for years) but I was wondering where I could get some HIGH quality realistic horns/brass...or maybe they are using an effect to acheive that sound? The brass with the refills on Reason 4.0 jus aren't cutting it for me...all help is greatly appreciated.

This has been something I've been after for years. It seems like as the years & the products come and go, so does the quality of the sounds.

It only seems like they get a little better with each new version of keys/sampler/rompler that's put out. But the sounds aint quite pinpoint realistic as they should be.....close, but not there yet.

So with that being said, I've come to enjoy a variety from different sources since I can't put my trust into just one. On the top of my list I might use a few from a motif, a few from a triton, a few from a expanded roland jv, and then some from an older kurzweil k2500.

This way I don't get the feeling like I'm stuck with a palete of dull sounds from one source. I'll even use a real sample or two of some brass orchestrated sources to get me away from the keys/modules.

There's other means of getting these same sounds, but without the added expense of having to buy the hardware too.

Hmm...think my next track WILL actually incorporate a Miles Davis sample...but ok...I'm def gonna try to get my hands on some samples from those modules.

Personally, I think all modules sound fake. I haven't heard one that convinced me yet.
There are a few work arounds. (1) sample the horns and chop em up right. I just did a Barry White joint and rearranged the horns so well, Mr White would be proud! haha!
(2) Sample cd's with REAL horns. Many have different types of horns to choose from, but It's going to take them chopping/editing skills again.. or
(3) you might be at the phase where you need an actual human to help you out! I know where in the digital age, but don't overlook the actual horn players that can do what you need for little or nothing.
For $50.00/hour, they may lay the track out super fast. Mic them up, and have the recorder running the whole time! Now you have your track done, and an hours worth of REAL horn samples to make your own CD with.

I somewhat agree...yes the horns even on "All of the Lights" sound a LITTLE cheesy...the horns on Lil Wayne's "Right Above It" is the same as well...if i could actually find a horn player i could experiment with layering and chorus effects to get that "bigger" sound...but...i'll jus have to make due without until that opportunity arrives

Buy a real trumpet ( can be found at pawn shops all over the earth ), play, add some reverb. They are easy to learn.

Not to long ago I acquired Sample-Tank with two expansion dvds. I spent about three hours going through all of them and they have some great sounds. For my next MPC beat im going to run it through FL and layer some brass and see how it comes out.

In that Kanye song I have heard better stuff in Sampletank but im sure he has much more resources to get the best sound possible. Just the style I guess... I had no issue with it.

OMG....i'm such an idiot! I COMPLETELY forgot about sampletank! SMH...yeah they MOS DEF have some of the best sounds i've ever heard...soooo in love with their strings

yes, the brass sounds are full of armonics that is hard to recreate with a synthesizer (even in some fair quality sound system they will sound wack) or whatever
i think is better to sample the real instrument if you got the posibility to do it (i.e. if you go to a jazz concert or if you have a friend that is practicing his brass instrument)
i'm listening to a Cannonball Adderley Lp - "music, you all" - that i digged 3 weeks ago and it's great
but if you like the sinthetized brass sounds go for it

u knw wat...i'm gonna try some subtle layering techniques so that I can still have those harmonic undertones that come with the REAL brass...but layer it on top of sum synthesizer brass to get it fuller...this is gonna be an interesting experiment...i really need to get my hands on at least a trumpet...lol and a trumpet player

To be honest, those horns in all of the lights sound like they come straight out of some sample library or other. Maybe Project Sam or Garritan etc.

For sample based music, sound modules just don't cut it for me. No matter how much I edit, resample etc, the sounds just don't fit the mix well. If I need an instrument, I sample it right off the record, or I plug up the mic.
I got rid of all sound modules a few years ago just to sound different from everyone else. I use to hate making a beat, only to hear the same sounds in someone elses music If I need a clap, I clap. I shake my own shaker. I make my own transitional effects also. This way I know nobody will have anything like it. For me, that's important.
