Question. . .
I have an M audio audiophile2496. Should i take the output of the card directly into my MSP10 powered monitors, or rum the output to a channel on my mixer and send the main outs of my mixer to the monitors??

Right now i go from soundcard stereo out to monitors.
and the main outs of my mixer go to my stereo in of soundcard... is this proper???

If it works it works, however, sometimes it's useful to hear what's going on in the mixer even if it doesn't come from the soundcard.

What type of mixer do you have? Does it have tape in/out connections?

If it does, here's how I would connect everything:

instrument outs -> mixer inputs
mixer output -> monitors
audiophile in/out -> tape in/out on mixer
aux send -> mpc sample inputs

That way, you can always hear what's going on, even if the computer's turned off. You can also use the aux sends to sample anything going into the mixer into the mpc. Just make sure you turn the aux send knob on the mpc channels to zero when sampling.

Most mixers have auxilliary sends, that is, the ability to "tap" a part of the signal on any channel and send it to an external effect processor or in this case, the sample inputs on the mpc.

How much you send is determined by the position of the "aux send" knob on the channel you want to "tap".

Umm. My explanation might be a bit confusing but I'm too tired to rewrite it properly, sorry.
