New Beastie Boys Album - HOTSAUCECOMMITTEEPARTTWO

So i just copped this shit and it's some of the most innovative hip hop i've come accross in years. I know there's plenty of underground funk to be had. But, none-the-less, the Beastie Boys make "Albums". This gem is packed with live drums, and dirty analogue synths. I'm just loving the technique and labor that the beasties commit to every project. Most of the synth stuff trips me out because i'm actually lost for how they're creating the sounds, i can't grasp what's being done to each paramater as it seems they're automating several at once. Anyways, dope ass album. Give it a listen and drop me some feedback. Peace.

Good god I could not agree more. Got this last weekend and it's been on constant rotation ever sense. I think it's been realy interesting to hear their sound evolve. You're right about the live drums bit, which sounds like their early/mid 90s stuff, but they've updated and grown obviously with all the synth/electronic sounding stuff. Pure genius, man.

The DJ in a pub I was in the other night dropped this tune, was at the bar waiting to be served and when it dropped the crowd went crazy. First time I heard it and wasn't expecting it Was playing loads of shit pop music but pulled this one out the bag.

I'm lovin "Too Many Rappers" with Nas at the moment. But yea, they really broke out the analogue syths on this one. The last album "To the 5 Buroughs" was all sequenced drums and quantized down pragrams. Seems like they're just rockin a lot of live synths and tweaking them in post. One cool effect they mess with throughout the album is bleeding in different reverbs and FX's. There's a track where the snare is panned hard right, and then they feed it to a room reverb that's panned hard left, and the they bring it in and out, it's really spacious and wild. Only downside to a Beastie Boy's album dropping is that you know you have another 5 to 7 years before you get another taste. But I've always liked how they make "Albums". As in they pick a style and murder it. You can typically guess what album a track was on just by it reminding you of another song on that album. This album has it's own sound from beginning to end, i like that.
