Kinda on topic, I mean music has progressed a bit right, so with Italian house in mind I bought Madox - Urban Plastick
WTF Italian breakbeat????
Guess what its **** rocking..I suggest you check it out, very cool samples nice mix of euro and afro beats and chunky acid breaks. well produced stuff and was a fan from track 1

nothing to do with italo disco i'm afraid, just cos it's italian don't mean to say it's italo disco. this ain't the official wacky breakbeat thread.

italo disco is made using hardware analogue synthesisers and drum machines, 12 bit samplers, hardware sequencers, and came from italy, spain, france, germany, canada and america. its heyday was between 81 -85. after the that it morphed into the Hi-NRG and Euro-beat sound.

The next major development (apart from chicago house from across the pond) was in about '89, when a style of dance music called italo house emerged. to us brits these were called 'piano choons' and coincided with the peak of rave culture and ecstasy consumption.
Italo house is signified by sampled breakbeats, disco hooks (pretty much anything -i've spotted some crazy samples), hip-house elements, synths, vocals about being high and BIG piano lines. These ideas and ethics pretty much laid the foundation for uk 'rave' music, but isn't credited as such (uk taking credit where it's not due AGAIN).

the italian sound from about 93 became harder and harder, but still, the italian's make some of the best electronic dance music around.

i personally despise any music that considers itself 'break-beat', or 'breakz', but that's another topic altogether...

rather it was the sample heavy breaks from brooklyn - from frankie bones' breaking bones label, bonesbreak compilations, as well as stuff on fourth floor records, and breaks on nugroove. good brooklyn boys such as lenny dee, frankie bones, todd terry, omar santana, joey beltram, tommy musto. bones was one of the first US djs to play at UK raves.

there's an absolutely killer kenny dope acid track on breaking bones.

nice selection esp. the first one.

'91/'92uk rave IS an amalgamation of styles, but is HEAVY on the sampled breakbeats and piano riffs. Afterwards jungle ditched the piano's for BASS (i LOVE '93 amen jungle)
