Do you do a lot of processing with the drum sounds?

Yeah, actually, I do. And when I'm listening to my collection, I find a lot of sounds on records like snares, kicks, hi-hats, you name it — timbales, whatever. There are a lot of sounds that come from records, but then I have sound-library CDs with drum sounds and other sounds that go into beats.



For all the HipHop purists...
:roll: I think that this pretty much wraps up the "...Sampling from Vinyl or CD....." Debate..... :lol:

I've found it easier to sample from CD. In my opinion, I want high sound quality. I sample from a 24/96 DVD player and it sounds beautiful, (granted it gets converted to a lower rate). But plenty of other cats that I respect want that dirty vinyl sound. And truth be told you can find alot more sample shit on vinyl. Vinyl sound great and has that "warmth", but I like the easy access of cds and the clarity. Jogging the turntable and the scanning the cd should be no concern, but it boils down to your source. If you find hot shit on vinyl, sample vinyl. If you find hot shit on cd, sample cd. I know crate diggers are ready to throw eggs...but.

I do both, I get what I want however I can get it and roll with the punches from there.

Why limit myself right?

Oh yeah... I forgot word of warning: scanning and track selecting on a DVD player is fugging slow, but its the price to pay for 24/96 and being able to sample movies quickly.

I sample whatever, vinyl, cd, vhs, whatever. I just prefer vinyl... cd is missing a certain characteristic that the vinyl has...

Yup, it's quite frustrating just sitting there with your finger on the fast forward. I like to see what I'm sampling!

Drums is cool but integral parts of a track which can be detected
and noticed is a sampling no no unless you're Kanye or P-Diddy
I personally dont sample kicks I like to make my own but I did
sample just one. :roll:
