what effect is this?

been wondering what effect this is for a while. pete rock uses it quite often and it can be heard on this particular j dilla tracks...

the instrument with this effect im talkin bout can be heard around the 10 second mark and on. it sounds like a filter or a wah wah type effect or something. excuse ,my ignorance i have very little knowledge of certain effects...

Pretty sure you answered your own question there Tyrone. It's some type of keyboard (I only listened to it real quick), but that's definitely the resonance of the filter that has that characteristic sound. It sounds like Dilla running 2 tracks of the sample in parallel. One very heavily filtered and another more straight up version. The old 'Low End Theory' which Pete Rock used extensively as well as Beatminerz and D.I.T.C. It's always a quick way to fatten up a track, get basslines easily, and the cool wah-wah resonance effect you brought up. I've always found Reason's Dr. Rex filter well suited for that type of sound.

that is a tremolo or wah, probably the sound originated when it was done with a phase shifter that allows you to control the phase or speed of the phase. you can get this effect from a morley pedal.
