Slice & Auto-Assign Q

Thinking about picking up an MPC 1000 to compliment & work with my Elektron OctaTrack. Sounds crazy to some but I believe they can make a killer little duo. ANYWAY, back on point here...

Wondering if it is possible to, say, cut up a break into sixteen equal slices then auto assign each to one of the pads... slice one to pad1 and so on. Some might say I'm just being lazy but it's a painful process to have to go and assign each slice over and over.... really takes away from the zen of the instrument.

Bonus question - How does the timestretch work on it exactly? Can I load up a 109 BPM sample, play back at 85 BPM and voila, timestretched? The OctaTrack works that way and it's actually really f*ckin spot on and insanely helpful & quick. Again, it's about NOT diving in menus, right?

you can chop and assign chops to pads in the 1k, very easy to do with any version of the jjos. As far as time stretch there are a few ways you can do it but you do need to go to the sample edit menu at least.

Curious how the slice assignment works. Do I have to highlight each slice then hold shift & hit a pad to assign it or what ever? Not sure why the flow would be that whack but I also do not own an MPC 1000 (yet, anyway) and am trying to get a few things nailed down. I REALLY feel that the 1000 and the OctaTrack would compliment each other but I'm really trying to get out of the menu-diving shit... you understand that, I'm sure!

Is the free version of JJOS that much better than Akai's OS? It seems a lot of the old-school die-hard Akai fans are the ones that are talking the most shit... and rightfully so. Thinking on it, it really doesn't blow my mind that the new Akai offers less first-party support than the 100% faithful community. Kind of funny and humbling at the same time.
