Do you use library drum sounds?

i use them, more often than not. and im not cheating!

Its not all that uncommon for certain artists to isolate themselves.. Although probably much less these days when commercialism thrives and feeds off of artists whose output is a result of trying to imitate something already established as selling well, lol

When I was a young samplist with my old, used S1000 that cost a bomb I avoided commercial sample libraries like the plague - they were cheesy and 'cheating', especially if we are talking actual loops.

But now I don't really care about single hits. Some big software company that's invested £££ in sampling an 808 or a vintage drum kit's going to do a better job than I ever am.

Still don't use loops of commercial sample CDs, though. Digging (or finding cool dusty grooves online) still rules.

I haven't, but I think it is totally fine to use them, as long as they sound good. Yes, there are bad ones and good ones. Some are taken from vinyls, some are exclusively recorded for the library.

Actually , I've been using a lot of free classic drum machine samples that I've found from Internet (Linndrum, TR909, TR-808, DMX, etc.), so I do use them!

I still prefer vinyl for its warmth. But ill use anything that helps my process. I'm not a fan of.premade loops though..that's just lazy..

I actually almost got into a fight over this question one night with a really old buddy of mine - he has the mpc 60 - i have a 4000, 500 and have owned a 60 II and making beats for about 8 years. He was so against using single hit samples - he just wanted to use vinyl samples and that's it....man we got heated i told him that he was limiting his options for a faulty sentimentalism - shit did he get vexed - quite funny reallly...i was acutally amazed that some people take using only vinyl samples so damn seriously - shit I was like that when i first started - but convenience is the winner on the day for me!
