Funky synth lead

Hey, I need help for recreating that kind of lead. It's used by Freddie Perren on some albums produced by the Mizell Brothers. I'm not really good on synthesis yet and can't get close to this.

If anyone could help me about programming sounds like this, it would be really appreciated!

i'm almost positive that's an ARP 2600 synth used for that sound... so i'd advise trying a VST instrument which emulates the ARP2600... and you happen to be in luck because i know of a free one which is actually pretty sweet...

you wanna download Arppe2600va from the following link... heck, there's a also a sweet moog emulator VST there [free as well], so grab that as well if you feel the need... but the arp2600 is what's gonna give you that sound...

i'd advise browsing through the bass presets included in the arppe2600va and playing those sounds on higher notes [rather than bass notes] to get that "wormy" sound you're after... hope this helps you scratch that synth itch...

Thanks! I think i got this VST, as well as the arturia emulation. Never really got into it, seems to be a hard synth to program. I'll try to browse the presets see if i can find something similar.

yeah... that synth is an enigma to me...

I took a quick look at it again and browsed through the presets...I really don't understand how to program it lol

the moog isn't really gonna give you that sound you're after, but it's still a great software emulation considering it's a free download...

so none of the bass presets [being played like a lead instead] of the arp2600 came close to what you're after? i thought a couple of them were getting near the "funky worm" lead sound... maybe it's just me... if i can think of any other good emulators that get close to that sound i'll post them...

IMO you don't necesserly need the APR for this sound. Basicly its
2 oscilators (saw or pulse)
one of them slightly detuned for a slow phasing
the rest is up to filter and the envelope
I wouldn't use resonance for this sound and the cutoff somewhere to the low-middle frequency range.
The hardest part is to get the correct envelopes for amp and filter
Its kind of a brass or trumpet sound and it starts with a relative slow attack on filter while the amp seem to have a faster setting for attack. The filter decay is relative fast but slow enough to notice the closing of the filter to the sustain level which is relative low.
^^Not very exact to create a sound from it.

So try this settings:


Also try the preset sinisa oxygene IV it is kind of this sound and a good start for tweaking it till your satisfied.

I couldn't find something close to this sound in the presets and I'm always having trouble to find sounds i like with synths, i'm really not good for programming sounds

i made you a custom patch by editing one of the presets in Arppe2600va... it isn't as brassy as the first link you posted, but it does have some funky worm sound to it...

Thanks for that patch crossings, i find it a bit too agressive for that kind of sound.
Peterpiper, I tried your settings, it's quite close, i got to tweak it a bit and it should be good!
