Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

Aight I just received my first MPC and I love it.
But one problem I'm running through is to match perfectly the drums with the samples being chopped.
Like, when soloed,I find my melody I've done with the sample really sweet, same with the drums. But when it comes to match them,it sounds off.
Maybe it's because I don't use the same amount of swing for each track.
Would you guys recommend to not use swing to play the samples chops?Or use the same amount as the drums?
Let me know how you guys do.

i usually quantize my chops strait without swing, and then go back and nudge them manually, then with the drums, i quantize the kick strait and go back and nudge, and i usually do the snare without quantization the whole way through, it takes a few times to get it right, but in the end it usually sounds pretty good.

if im using swing, i almost never do it on the sample, but i know alot of people do.

You can also quantize your drums and then turn off quantize to record the chops... or the other way around.

See what works for the actual beat you're working on. I've had situations where quantized chops worked, sometimes quantized with swing did the trick, and sometimes i had to turn it off... there's no golden rule.

This is actually what i love about the SP1200... there's only one track to record to... so there is no decisions like "should i use XX% of swing for this, and another swing setting for that maybe?"... you have one track, you decide for a quantization and swing ammount, which will then apply to the whole track! :-D

Experiment.

I tend to use the Strength setting in JJOSXL - it let's you set how loosely your live playing adheres to a quantize & swing setting. I couldn't believe that the Akai OS doesn't have a Strength setting when I first got my MPC2500.

its nothing to do with using the same swing on each track

the problem is ur trying to paint by numbers instead of seeing the track as a complete pickture hence shit aint gel-ing together
