turntable and mixer qestion

easy all im not sure if im posting this in the right place but im thinking off setting my turntable back up so i can sample from vinyl again and i no longer have a dj mixer iv got a alesis usb 8 channel thing and im just wondering if i need some kinda of pre amp for the turntable or if it will just work though the line in?

a phono preamp is a special kind of preamp...unless your table has one built in, you will need a phono pre to bring it to normal line level. if you just use a regular pre it will have messed up eq.

tapedeck is correct. You need a dedicated phono preamp. 48v phantom is only sufficient for condenser mics, etc.

Behringer makes a decent unit (model PP400) for ~$20.

should also be noted that 48v does not a preamp make - that is phantom power.

most pre's usually have phantom power though.
