Yes, the XV does import samples as well, if you set the drum progs up as a patches then you can layer four sounds (or tones as they call them). Picking up the drums and bass board soon, can never have enough of these two.
The drum triggering could all be done one one string/semitone apart, the velocity sensitivity is quite good if you use your fingers; it's a different feel to bangin' out drums on a pad. More experiments..

Another experiment, 4 drum loop examples. I'm triggering the drums using the GI-10 via a midied guitar. All unedited and unquantised, though I did put an overdub on the last two beats. The first 2 are jazzy solo's, last two slow 100bpm beats, samples from the Xv 5080. With greater control you can do all drum beats using just one note bending
