quick question though I have 1/4 outputs which is control room out and pair of xlr outs called the main output.

Now the 1/4 control room output is going into the mpc rec in to sample, however, I was hoping do I need to buy two xlr to 1/4 cables to then connect to my monitor speakers.

instead of running the CTRL ROOM outputs to your MPC, run a cable from the ALT 3/4 OUTS instead... then have your monitors hooked up to the mixer's MAIN OUTS... this way when you want to sample into your MPC, you just press the MUTE button on the channel you want to sample and it will send the audio signal to your MPC.

trust me, this is the best way to do it.

oh.. and yes... you need to buy 2 XLR to 1/4 cables for your monitors... they will serve you well.

chances are your monitors will also have XLR inputs [not sure which model you have]... so you can probably also just get some XLR cables... not necessarily to 1/4. i'm sure you'll figure it out...

a much nicer step up would be the Mackie Onyx line of mixers which are not only analog but also have firewire to enable you to multi-track directly from the mixer into your computer's DAW. just make sure the mixer has the firewire output.

behringer will get you out of a tight spot on a budget, but their equipment doesn't last long... mackie on the other hand

I've been rockin my dads Old behringer since years now and it's still runnin perfect. He bought it back in 96 or sumthin..

I also want to buy a new mixer, got my mind set on the mackie vlz 1402. The Phonic mixer I have now has a lot of hiss, the preamps suck and the eq sounds ugly. First I have to sell some of the gear I don't use so I can convince myself that it's ok to spend a lot of money on a new mixer (thing about the 3 series).

The Tapco is amazing quality, steel chasis no hum or hiss at all only the effects are pretty rubbish but I hardly use them.

However, I maybe getting rid of it soon as I maybe trading for a Tascam DP-24 which is the perfect solution for everything I need at the moment.

Tapco was Mackie's budget brand name/line.

I bought the Mackie vlz3 1402 yesterday. What a great mixer! All the hiss is gone! The preamps and the eq sound great. I should have bought this sooner.

Even some of my gear that I thought was noisy/hissy turned out to be clean when connected to the new mixer.

def check the Yamaha RM800 - comes in 16 or 24 channel versions.
