STR8 BULLSHIT MY MAN!
also, the fact they are all going "yeah man its just sort of cleaner and whatnot I dont know how" dosnt instill confidence. MATHEMATICALLY SPEAKING THIS IS NONSENSE.\
you guys keep looking at pro tools like its this real gear with all this personality!! Pro tools does not know the different between -5db and -20db... in other words, digitally you are either clipping above 0db or your not.
that would literally be like saying there is a sweetspot when you add 1+1 on a pro tools calculator where you get 3 instead!! Also some inherent programming of this into pro tools would be moronic as well....
I wouldn't be surprised to find out that what they are hearing is the physical limitations of their ADAC not the pro tools environment getting groovy. Because in an analog sense, you can get distortion the closer you move to 0db without actually clipping.
For this to happen digitally, someone would have to spend hours and hours programming a new and never before used or seen non linear curve of distortion randomly into the pro tools sound engine...
Im not debasing these guys overall knowledge as engineers, but as someone who works with DSP code the information isnt correct. I believe a quote is something about it sounding worse because of the "computations" at higher db.... FACE PALM
