Too much bass in my beats.

its good to have a spectrum analyzer if you are having issues on the low end...it will show you a round about idea of what your mix is like and you can eq, filter , or whatever is necessary for the mix you are working on. too much compression gain or just in general i think is a common issue. people rely on it as a quick fix too often when mixing your levels more properly will get you farther in my opinion...

A car stereo will generally have a natural 'smile curve' to enhance the highs and lows, and from what I've heard, there's no room for manoeuvre with the bass in that track at all.

In the first part, for the bass line, I use the Sine Bass from MPC Bass. On the second part (starting at 3:17), I use the Dub Bass from MPC Bass. The level of the bass track is at 45 for both beats.

I did a test with the first one ( http://dstr.lafacade.com/mpcforum/songs ... luence.mp3 ): I highpassed the bassline at 80 Hz, and it did the trick! The beat is now almost perfect in cars!

My conclusion is this: I'm buying a subwoofer so I can hear what is happening in my mixes. That way, I'll be able to cut out the needed frequencies.

Rule number 1... don't master to MP3... ever. Get a final pre-master in WAV format at the same bit depth and sample rate as your project. From there (assuming you've nailed the mix) proceed to do your own home mastering job if you have to. When you're happy with that have a duplicate copy of the master converted to MP3. You've then got ALL bases covered.

I wanted to visually check what your MP3s ( ) were doing compared to a commercial track. I randomly picked an Action Bronson tune on the basis that it had a similar soft clipped/distorted kick.

You're definitely in the ballpark my man, both in terms of frequency and overall loudness. For my tastes it's fractionally too loud and you can see the area of the bass that's clearly flatlining, but it's not too bad at all. The waveform also looks fine when zoomed into it.

A combination of a frequency analyzer and a sub could elevate your mixes even further. To be honest though, if all you've got to worry about is going slightly overboard with bass, you're doing a lot of other things right. The sound selection and composition is nice.
