a little advice on my drum programming

what do you when your drums are exactly the way you want them but they seem to be slower than your sample? i guess what i mean is even though the drums are on beat they just dont seem to match my tempo its like. for example the seq is 4 bars 86 bpm but my drums sound like they are 70 bpm what am i doing wrong of course i could think of an new drum seq(this is really A QUESTION not a problem) i just want to know everybody else's thoughts on the matter. also do you think producing in double-time is a good or a bad thing what's the pros and cons to doing so? i got a mp 1000 just in case your wondering

Could it be the sample that's not 86bpm? If the sample is too slow/fast for the track you want to make, you can always chop it up in order to align it better.

hutch listen to the bastard, its a very good clear tutorial helped me alot.

if your doing live sounding drums then double time can be your best friend as you have double the resolution...also used in dub quite a lot....

if the drums sound off with the sample try 16/3 or 8/3, that usually works for me when the drums arent alignin right.. but i think bastard is on point..

guzman 16/3 8/3 ?????? what do you mean are you reffering to time sig but thanx for all the advice so far everybodys on point i am gonna check the chopping tutorial i remember reading it but it totally over my head at the time

Also if the drums feel too slow try playin with bthe timing of each individual drum sound... Hit the Open Window button on the Time Sig section and you can change the quantization of a single track or single note... Some times just shifting the snare or hi-hats a tick or two earlier or later can make a world of difference...


Also, a mistake I made a lot when I first started was that when I would sample something that was maybe an intro to a song or something and it was a string section it would start off kinda slow... I (being inexperienced) would set my start point from the Trim screen wherever the sample looked like it started... As a result the sample seemed off becaused of the slow pick-up to the sample... You may have to reset a start point on the sample or shift the sample a tick or two later...

Just experiment... Sometimes just shuttin off the MPC and comin back later can give a fresh perspective on the beat and all of a sudden it will hit you what needs to be done... I have beats that I ddin't finis for weeks till I heard em and changed one little thing that made it shine...

yeah the time sig.. sometimes i have a sample and i cant get the drums to align right so i mess with it and it usually works, but choppin its another koo way dependin on what ur tryin to do..

yea ive been stalking this track ima taka break for i hour or so and read that tutorial i no its for the 2000 xl but i know i can apply most of the same fundamentals if not all of them thanx everybody soon as i finish it i ma let everyone know 1
