Just curious don't you think running a hi-pass at 30-50hz is too much??? I would roll maybe with 10-30hz or so depending on how much slump I wanted of course, but 40 or 50hz seems like it would make things sound thin. I feel ya on the other stuff though, I do that too with snares, vox, keys, like you said erything that don't got no slump in it. Do you know off top how much low end mastering engineers are shaving off so they can boost the loudness with as little distortion as possible?? Commercial music has gotten louder and louder over the last 20 years or so due to technology and bass carving tricks done in mastering.

well i did say it depended on the tune if your doing dubby stuff you need those really low er lows...but have found a highpass has certainly given me more headroom, made the bass more defined and didnt kill subs yet still sounded the same- horses for courses innit?
