arrangement & finishing school
when is it dun
at some point, you have to drop but when

RETURN TO MPC FORUMS
After talking at length with LAMPdog, I’ve been digging back in my bag
---MPC multiband filter with spectral EQ
---YA mastering chain
I didn’t realize what I was missing until I saw this toy in action with the spectral EQ
I know they say trust your ears but this is a must on your MASTER OUT
the only question I have is how to fit it into the YA mastering chain
https://www.thempcstore.com/mpc-effects ... ilterbank/
and I stumbled onto this piece of hardware.
While I’ve decided that I don’t need it, it did make me think
https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.ht ... e=0842-AAD
what can we get done with just major analog tools ?
Particularly on a loop that already has good delay/reverb or we wouldn’t have sampled it. Sometime, we “morph” samples but other times all you have to do get the levels right & employ basic mixing properly.
major analog mixing
compression/eq
filters/saturation
Finally, what is the best way to know when you have got the job done ?
final tests
a] 2nd set of ears – always a good idea.
Let someone judge it who had no involvement with the creation.
b] spectral EQ → MPC multiband filter or clarity M
LAMP showed me the power of akai’s latest toy – the only MPC tool with a spectral EQ
C] play it in 2-3 different settings & then mix for the setting that is the most important while keeping in mind the other settings
my top 4 settings
1] quality open ear headphones in a less than ideal setting ***
not outside at disneyland but definetely not in your studio with foam walls/soundproofing. People are NOT going to be listening to your music in perfect quiet with $600 german headphones.
2] BOSE premium system in my chevy via CD or USB
with the windows UP & then down
3] keyboard amp on blast with minimal EQ ***
as opposed to my KRK rokits, there is some coloring here. Also many keyboard amps are mono, so stereo is taken out of the equation here.
4] bluetooth from laptop to PEAVEY PV10 & best headphones with minimal EQ.
During COVID I realized many people are gonna stream your music so best to get an idea of bluetooth’s effect on the equation.
*** denotes straight out the MPC with YA mastering template
LAMP noted that the low EQ is a bit heavy
