just wondering
how would you guys do it, on audio editors.

or even better from a record str8 into sampler(like a s950, mp or sp), and you wanted to timestretch among other things.. l

I've got a Pioneer DJM-500 mixer which has a pretty accurate BPM counter, but better than that is the Red Sound Micro BPM counter which I've got on the headphone out of my soundcard.

For analysing the BPM of samples I use AudioFinder, a Mac OSX sample organiser. It has a neat feature which adds the BPM to the sample name so you can then find suitable samples by searching for the BPM.

Formula 60/sample length in secs * 4 quarter notes. For example 60 divided by 2.56 secs=23.44 X 4 beats=93.7 BPM using a 1 bar measure.

Hit www.versiontracker.com with the term "BPM" for a free BPM tool for your favorite OS. I got "BPM inspector" for OSX cos it integrates with iTunes and writes the BPM to the MP3's ID3 tag. Use it to BPM my vinyl as well.
