the only reason i find to keep a drum sample stereo is if there is a stereo reverb on it.
an individual drum is mono but when someone plays a drumset it is now stereo. this is due to the fact that a drum set is spread out.
someone who is good at mixing keeps this in mind when panning individual parts of a drum track.
