Where do you get your sound effects

yeah using a gunshot just cos you live in a rough neighbourhood is a huge cliche but using a gunshot for any other artistic need is fair game- does anyone actually use those samples just to say 'look at me im ghetto'?

if you got any game cd's (not the g unit The Game), but games like shoot 'em up games on the computer. pop the cd in the computer and browse the cd. find the sounds folder, and you can find a lot of sounds like gunshots and different ambience type things....maybe some misc. kind of sounds. but try it. might help...

what kind of effects are you looking for? I've been to a local radio shack and seen a few different sound effects cd's. one that said "5000 sound effects for your projects..." or something. I bought one not too long ago. its ok, nothin to trip over

and im not even gonna touch that 'gotta be in the ghetto to get gunshots' thing....

If I want a sample containing a specific word etc I just google

beer.wav or weed.wav (just examples)

and more often than not I find something

some times during production of a song the artist might want a gunshot to lay emphasis on a word or phrase. or an explosion at the end of a drop or song just to hype the beat or song up a little. background sound effects sometimes give the listener a sense of preception where as they can feel the emotion and meaning behind a verse.

you don't have to be real or fake or representing somthing just to have a few background noises

trite or overused are the key words. gunshots are both trite and overused. if you need to emphasize your words with artillery do it, but unless it's done in a way that's amazing and new to me, i laugh long and hard because it's the corny hallmark birthday card of rap songs. gunshots are like knock knock jokes and bush after saying the alphabet:

all tired out.

dog if you hadn't noticed rap is a buisness that is damn near built on cleches, most rappers CD's are all about the same damn thing just worded differently.(now days atleast) And there are only a handful of artist who have radical unique sounds and lyrical content.

just saying that in this buisness that word has no meaning or place, because too many things can be considered a cleche'
